Happy Friday

Well folks, week one is nearly over! As I finish up for the week with you, I wanted to share some tips that I, and others, have found to be helpful when actually taking a test, sorry, I mean assessment. Geese, it’s hard to change our way of thinking, isn’t it? Nevertheless, you have the next 11 weeks to prepare for the COPM assessment and hopefully you will take advantage of this forum and will be willing to share your suggestions with us. We would love to share what worked for you with the next group of managers that make the decision to do what you are doing right now.

Next week, Robin Wagner, will be sharing information related to the basic ENT review this forum. This is going to be good and remember, read each post, ask questions, make comments, etc.

I will be back in touch as we get closer to Fort Worth with those of you that will be taking the COPM but until then, I would like to leave you with the following tips:

· Preparation! Being well prepared for the assessment is the best way to reduce anxiety!

· Schedule time! Space out your studying over several weeks and keep reviewing materials – do not cram!

· AOA COPM on-line study group --- follow the postings AND participate!

· Read each question carefully BEFORE you look at the answer.

· Skim through the assessment so you have a good idea how to pace yourself.

· Before looking at the answer, try to come up with the answer in your head.

· Attack the “simple” questions first to help guild up your confidence for the harder questions.

· Eliminate answers you know are not correct.

· Read all choices (answers) BEFORE choosing your answer.

· Educated guess – take it and remember, there is no penalty.

· ALWAYS go with your gut! Nine times out of ten, when people change their answer, they end up going with the incorrect answer. Don’t doubt yourself!

I should also add – have fun. Too often we can create too much pressure for ourselves so try not to do this. Always remember, you are the expert in your practice and you have a tremendous amount of knowledge and expertise so go with it!

Best of luck and hope you enjoy the next several weeks. I look forward to watching for your posts!
