Just when you thought we had forgotten--but it's Monday and everything went on today but this

week we will focus on the concepts of OSHA, FACTA, HIPAA, wage and hour and all the fun stuff. Just keeping up with all the different agencies is a feat in itself.

Things to know will be --what are four particular standards relating to healthcare which are covered by OSHA?

1-Bloodborne Pathogen Standard

2-Hazard Communication Standard

3-:Lockout/Tagout Standard

4-Personal Protective Equipment Standard

Review the basics of the four listed above. These are the ones we deal with, train staff about yearly.

If you want more info the Department of Labor website is a good place to review. The resource manual also gives a pretty concise review of all four standards.

Basically this week we will cover most of the regs which make sure that the employee we hired is safe, paid correctly, does not suffer from verbal or physical abuse, harassment of any kind, and their benefit packages are ERISA correct. These are all good things and it is our job to make sure we know what to do. We started with OSHA and will answer any questions you may have as we go.

As we go on some of the areas to be covered are of course HIPAA, FACTA, Wage and Hour, FLSA, Safe Harbor and there are more. We will make the effort to cover as much as possible and if you should know of an area which needs more attention please let us know.

FACTA is one of those regulations that we deal with automatically but don't really think of what we do as complying with FACTA. This is the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction act. This means that we will keep our employee's sensitive information safe--this includes name, social security number, email address, insurance information, etc.

Do you know what employee information you are allowed to report?
What are your responsibilities under FACTA?
